Add documents to your workspace

Thanks, we’ve recorded your feedback.

Get started right away with Microsoft Office Live Workspace beta by adding documents to your workspace. You can add one or more documents — including Microsoft Office Excel worksheets, Office Word documents, and Office PowerPoint presentations — to any workspace.

Each document that you add can be up to 25 MB in size. Office Live Workspace provides you with a total of 5 GB of storage space. If the size of your site approaches the maximum storage space, you are notified that you may exceed your storage limit when you next try to save or upload a document.

Before you can upload multiple documents to your workspace, you will be prompted to install the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight.

Note:  To upload multiple documents to Office Live Workspace, you must use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, Windows Internet Explorer 7, or Mozilla Firefox as your Web browser.

Add a single document

If you have not installed Microsoft Silverlight, you can still add documents to your workspace, but you must do so one document at a time.

  1. In Office Live Workspace, on the left navigation bar, click the name of the workspace to which you want to add a document.

  2. On the toolbar, click Add Document, and in the drop-down menu, click Single Document.

  3. Add Documents menu

Note:  The Single Document option is only available if you have not yet installed Microsoft Silverlight.

  4. In the Choose File or File Upload dialog box, select the file that you want to add to Office Live Workspace. Click Open.

  3. Note:  If you already have Silverlight installed, you may be prompted to install the latest version.

  4. In the Microsoft Silverlight dialog box, click Install Silverlight, and follow the instructions to complete the installation.

  5. When installation is complete, you may be asked to close all Web browsers. Then open a browser that points to Office Live Workspace to upload multiple documents.

Add documents to your workspace

  1. In Office Live Workspace, on the left navigation bar, click the name of the workspace to which you want to add multiple documents.

  2. On the toolbar, click Add Documents.

  3. Note:  After you install Silverlight, the toolbar button changes from Add Document to Add Documents.

  4. In the Open dialog box, locate the documents that you want to add to Office Live Workspace. If you use the Windows operating system, press and hold the CTRL key, and then click each file to highlight it. If you use an Apple Mac operating system, press and hold the SHIFT key, and then click each file to highlight it.

  5. Click Open. An Uploading queue appears that shows the progress of each document upload.

  6. If you want to cancel the upload of a document, on the Uploading queue, click Cancel next to the document name.

  7. If a document fails to upload, on the Uploading queue, click View error next to the document name to learn the reason for the failed upload. Click Remove to delete the error message.

As your multiple documents upload to Office Live Workspace, you can continue working in other workspaces as long as you do not close the browser window that contains the Uploading queue.
