    Edit

I am not able to edit the documents I have stored.  Once I select the document, or open it, its a Read Only.  There is not "Edit" on the Toolbar that I can select.  I have downloaded the updates, and silverlight...but still no "Edit"!

My employer and I need to be able to access the documents, make changes, and save within this program...online.

    Thanks for your help!

    Re: Edit

I would also like to adopt the online editing capability directly from the workspace by using the Edit icon.

    This is my experience:

After clicking ok to the window verifying I wish to open the particualr document, the next window is a Save As window which states, "The converter failed to save the file."

I have found a multistep workaround so I'm able to edit an online version from within Word.

    1. From Word, click the Office Button.

    2. Click "Open From Office Live"

    3. Choose your workspace.

    4. Find and open your workspace document.

    5. Begin editing the document

    6. Save your changes (Changes are synced with the online document in the workspace)

So basically, the Office Button has the options needed to access the online version of any of your workspace documents. It gives you the functionality you are looking for, but is not as convient as clcking the Edit button on the workspace.

Test out the other icons on the worksapce as well. I found that Save and Version icons are useful if you want to download a file to work on when not online. When ready to upload changes, use the Version Icon drop down arrow to bring up options for uploading a new versiion.

Although I'm able to utilize the online collabortive features of the workspace, I'm still interested in resolving the issue I described above about the Edit icon not working properly.

I was having the same problems with opening Excel files for editing, from my Workspace. Sometimes they would load in as Read-only and other times 'not load at all'

Now,  I don’tSmile have this problem anymore! It is like “Been there and Done that” or “Been there and Fixed that”.

First this is what I have on my system; Office 2007, SP2 with OL add-in 1.4 installed.

An E-mail from Sahil Chadha of MS Workspace Support informed me:

I have analyzed your concern and I found that some Microsoft Office components on your system are not installed correctly which leads to the problem you are experiencing while editing files in Microsoft Office Live Workspace.

So believing it may be a problem with my Office Suite I attempted to fix it.

    Step-by-Step

    1. Start Excel
    2. Click the round Office button in the top left corner of the screen.
    3. Click the [Excel Options] button.
    4. Select Resources
    5. Click [Diagnose]  for run Microsoft Office Diagnostics

The tests do take awhile – 15 minutes for me. Just hang in there.

The last test (start up test) found a problem and fixed it automatically.

I closed Excel and went to My Workspace and started editing Excel documents with no problems.
