Please HELP - Compatibility Mode and Read Only

I use Office Live Workspaces to communicate with my office staff and to access forms I have to fill out for State Agencies.  There are about 25 documents in my workspace - most are shared.  There are Employee Timesheets, ToDo Lists, Scheduling, Tracking, etc.  All of these are shared documents (except the agency forms).  The system worked extremely well - BUT recently almost all of our documents have gone into "Compatibility Mode" and become "Read Only".  We can no longer use the documents as intended. In fact in most cases we simply can not use the documents at all.

All the computers for my business are using Vista Ultimate or XP Pro.  All are using Office 2007 Professional. All use Internet Explorer.  All of the documents were created and used in Office 2007.  The shared documents are being opened from each individuals workspace.  A new document was created and put into workspace a few days ago, it is now inaccessable - having become Read Only in Compatability Mode.  The error message says "The converter failed to save file".

If I do a Save As to the desk top I get this message - "The following features in this workbook are not supported by earlier versions of Excel.  These features may be lost or degraded when you save this workbook in an earlier version".  I am NOT saving in an earlier version.

HELP - PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP.  I need to fix this ASAP.

I had that same problem. And no one was responding to my cries for help. So I sent and e-mail to support and Akash Kundu worked with me (thru e-mails) and we fixed it.

    These are his instructions:

My name is Akash Kundu and

Ken, after analyzing the information provided by you I found that you need to install Microsoft Office Compatibility pack on your system in order to resolve your concern.

                     (I have office 2007)

Kindly visit the below mentioned link to download Microsoft Office Compatibility pack:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=941b3470-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en

However, if you have already installed Microsoft Office Compatibility pack on your system then uninstall Microsoft Office Compatibility pack from your system and reinstall the same.

To uninstall Microsoft Office Compatibility pack from your system follow the below mentioned steps:

    1.     On the Windows Start menu, click Control Panel.

    2.     Select Add/Remove Programs.

    3.     In the list of currently installed programs, select Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office system and then click Remove or Add/Remove. If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program.

    4.     Click "Yes" or OK to confirm that you want to remove the program.

Then install the Compatibility Pack that you downloaded above.

It was easy to install the Compatibility Pack - no restart was needed.

    Akash Kundu  also said;

However, if the concern is not resolved then kindly request them to contact Microsoft Office Live Workspace Support in order to resolve the concern at the earliest.

So if this doesn't fix the problem please email and ask for Akash Kundu and say that Ken sent you.
