One of the best parts of my job is getting to interact with Office Live users worldwide. And thanks to tools like Twitter, connecting with users gets easier all the time.
Last week I had the opportunity to connect with Maurice on Twitter. Maurice is a high school student who’s done an amazing job creating technology videos that he then posts to his YouTube channel. He mostly delivers reviews and set-up tips for video cards, headsets and stuff like that, but sometimes takes on different topics, too. His videos are strictly for the purposes of educating his audience—and I absolutely love his passion for technology!
Maurice recently posted this insightful review of Office Live Workspace beta. What impressed me was how well he “got” the value of having an online place to store and edit documents. In his video he talks about how he and some classmates, while working on a social studies project, uploaded project files to the workspace he created. They could review and edit each others’ work in one place and see who had modified what along the way. It’s way easier than emailing documents back and forth, he says. Maurice says he mentioned Office Live Workspace to several teachers, too, who are now considering using it for posting and distributing class materials.
He has some good advice for Office Live Workspace developers, too. For starters, he says it’s important to keep it simple and easy-to-use. (I think he’s concerned about Microsoft’s fondness for adding features!) He also makes a case for making Office Live Workspace compatible with Google Chrome. I think he’s on the right track and admire his forward thinking.
If you haven’t checked out Office Live Workspace, take a look at Maurice’s YouTube video and then give it a spin yourself. You can sign up for free. Then, like Maurice, you can make your own YouTube video or tell us your thoughts by leaving a comment here. You can even send me a Tweet sometime to @davidalexander_ on Twitter. We love getting candid viewpoints from Office Live users. It really helps us understand the right direction to take as we continue to build and evolve our products.
