I have been asking myself this question for the past year. I have tried not to but things look like I may have to. I have TRULY sacrificed my desires for the past two years but I am just so determined NOT to get a job. I just have been turned off for working for someone else and my children need me at home for them. Times do get hard but they ALWAYS workout for us in the long run.My desire is not to get a job but if I have to, well then, I will. But so far, so good! No shopping but eating, clothing, and bills have gotten paid (some kind of way). Im not used to this financial struggle but it is worth it and it will pay off. I know it is not for nothing. In fact, it is for EVERYTHING!!!!

Perceptions do make a difference. Brings back memories of a similar situation I encountered while in the military. My 1st Sergeant bought a brand new Cadillac Seville. I, being a Private, felt the utmost respect for him, not because he bought a Cadillac, but because of his position as a superior Non-Commissioned Officer. One day, I saw this person jumping out of a dumpster and, to my surprise, it was my 1st Sgt. He was actually looking for aluminum cans to make some money to help him pay for his car. I didn’t really lost respect from him, after all, he was still the 1st Sgt, but from them on I thought of him different.

Yes, I would and I have on many occasions. Where is the money suppose to come from when there are no small business loans and bills have to be paid.

I currently run an online business, and yes I am looking for a second job. I plan on working 15 to 20 hours a week. My kids are learning how to operate things, so they can take some of my load. My wife is already working a second job so that we can pay bills, it is just not enough. I just hope that in the next week or so, I can actually start selling so that I can keep the business going.

Just the other day I finally asked a store clerk for an application. I am going to take on a part time job to help with bills, medical/dental until things get better.

I admire all of you for admitting you would take a part-time job in order to keep your business going. It’s a tough economy and entrepreneurs who are truly committed to their businesses have to make all sorts of sacrifices. Just make sure you still have the time and energy you need to devote to your company, as well as your job.

Most definately!!! I recently took a part-time job a couple of months ago and it has helped me to pay the bills at my office since tax season is over. My customers uderstand why I did it and they support me. Besides, since my office remains open 3-4 days a week outside tax season, they still have access to me whenever they need me.

For sure I would take a part time job. The problem in the UK in my area is there are no jobs part time or otherwise!

We set up just a month before the financial crisis took hold and the business has now swallowed our whole life savings and more! So yeah a part time job would be very welocme here!

I am no entrepreneur BUT like everyone else out there who has recently become a victim of this recession, I too have mouths to feed and bills to pay, so one has to do whatever is required to make ends meet. I am looking for ANY work i can do whilst i try to get my business started! Yes, that's right I am trying to start a fresh business as well as trying to find work in my current profession and also look for part-time work. If you think its bad in the U.S. its even worse here in the U.K. well that's how it appears to me anyway.

I would do it in a heart beat. after all it is my cheap and inappreciative customers that are driving me into poverty. I am a machinist in in 9 out of ten cases they think that I can make them goods already on store shelves for half teh price. it doesn't work like that. But that is teh mentality.

It sounds like I am the subject of your article. I have taken on part-time jobs to the extent of stocking shelves on the midnight shift and cutting grass to make ends meet for my business. I try as best as I can to operate on a cash basis with my business.

As long as your customers understand why you are doing what you are doing by making additional income, I don't think that it reflects negatively on your core business. Putting food on the table and having a roof over my family's head is top priority. I will accept whatever consequences come from me putting myself on the line every day for my family.
